Success Story – Gerri Excelling at His New Auto Center Job
You might recall from previous updates that Gerri had been looking to obtain an employment opportunity in the automotive industry for an extensive period of time. In July, he was offered a position at the Walmart Auto Center.
Since his first official workday on July 16th, Gerri’s supervisor has been very impressed with his work performance. His supervisor and coworkers say, “He’s doing great!” They are grateful for his skill level and knowledge about cars.
When his colleagues were told Walmart had hired a new employee who was DHH (deaf or hard of hearing), they decided to brainstorm and create their own slang sign language for words like “headlights”. They did this before Gerri began his first day on the job.
When the Auto Center work crew discovered that Gerri is fluent in reading Japanese, they realized they can utilize Google Translate from English to Japanese to ensure successful communication. The natural supports at Walmart are sensational and we are confident Gerri will continue to thrive in his auto technician position. We are so proud of Gerri!
And it’s because of the support from employers in the community and people like you that Gerri and other Chinook customers are able to possess and thrive in employment opportunities and create careers that lead to full lives.
