Building Access from the Ground Up: A Look at Janicki’s Support

Some improvements happen quietly. No ribbon cutting, no before-and-after photos that make headlines. But they change how people move through a space every single day.

That’s exactly the kind of work Janicki chose to support.

As the Access Champion sponsor of This Old House: Make it Accessible, Janicki is helping drive a project that lives at the heart of daily dignity: accessible restroom renovations inside Chinook Enterprises.

Where the Need Is

Our building has served this community for decades. It’s been a place for employment, connection, and growth.  Still, parts of it haven’t kept up with what people actually need.

Right now, our restrooms create real limitations. For some individuals, navigation is tight. For others, the setup doesn’t support mobility needs or assisted care. Those moments add up.

This project is about changing that experience.

Why This Kind of Support Matters

It’s easy to rally around projects you can see from the outside. This one asks people to look a little closer.

Janicki stepped into that space.  Their support helps move forward a project that isn’t flashy, but is essential. It’s about comfort, privacy, and independence. It’s about making sure no one has to think twice about something as basic as using the restroom.

Seeing It in Person

At This Old House: Make it Accessible, guests will get a closer look at what that work really means.  You’ll walk through the building, see the areas that need attention, and hear directly from staff about what these changes will make possible.  Click here to RSVP!

There will be time to connect, grab a bite, and take part in simple activities designed to show how thoughtful design shapes everyday life.

You’ll also hear from David, our Advocacy Specialist, whose perspective grounds this work in the real experiences of the people we serve.

We’re grateful to Janicki for stepping up and helping move this work from idea to action!
