This Old House: Making Space for Everyone

There’s something special about an old building. The history, the character, the feeling that so many lives have passed through its doors. At Chinook Enterprises, our building holds decades of stories, growth, and community.

But like many older spaces, it wasn’t built with accessibility in mind.

This fall, we’re opening our doors for a one-of-a-kind event, This Old House: Make it Accessible, a fundraiser focused on something both practical and deeply important: creating safe, accessible restrooms for everyone who comes through our building.

Why Accessible Restrooms Matter

For many of the individuals we support, something as simple as using the restroom isn’t simple at all.

Our current restrooms are outdated and not designed for people with mobility challenges, sensory sensitivities, or the need for supported care. This creates daily barriers for employees, program participants, and visitors.

Renovating these spaces means:

Improved safety and dignity for everyone

More independence for the people we support

A more welcoming environment for staff, families, and community partners

It’s not just a construction project. It’s about removing barriers and making sure everyone belongs here.

This event will be fun, warm and inviting, where you’ll get to see first–hand how accessible design has a HUGE impact!

Guided Building Tours
Take a walk through our space and see building improvements in process. Staff will share stories about how these changes will make a real difference in daily life.

Snacks & Refreshments
Enjoy light appetizers, beverages, and time to network with other community members and businesses.

Interactive Activities
Hands-on moments throughout the building will give you a chance to experience how design impacts accessibility, and why thoughtful updates matter.

A Message from David, Advocacy Specialist
David will share his perspective on what accessibility truly means, beyond compliance, and why this project matters for the entire community. His voice is powerful, and you won’t want to miss it!

Be Part of the Transformation

This Old House has served our community for years. Now it’s our turn to give it the care it deserves. Over the past year we’ve made many building improvements and progressed toward more accessible spaces, but we still have far to go.

Thanks to the generosity of our community and partners, we’ve already made significant improvements, including an inclusive PA system, energy-efficient heating and cooling upgrades, new insulation, enhanced parking lot signage, LED lighting throughout the facility, updated door access controls, modern security camera systems, and the installation of accessible door push buttons currently underway.

Every dollar raised at this event will go toward making our restrooms safer, more inclusive, and more functional for everyone who comes through our door!
