Celebrating David Wilder: A Lifetime of Advocacy and Inclusion

Last week, Chinook was proud to celebrate David Wilder, Advocacy Specialist and long‑time Chinook employee, as he was inducted into the 2026 Skagit Valley College Hall of Fame. This recognition honors more than a career milestone. It celebrates decades of leadership, persistence, and unwavering advocacy for inclusion and access for people with disabilities.

David has been part of the Chinook team for more than two decades, using his voice to elevate the importance of disability rights, inclusive employment, and full participation in community life. His advocacy has reached far beyond Chinook, extending to classrooms, community spaces, and legislative halls. Whether on campus at Skagit Valley College or in the state legislature, David has consistently worked to advance policies and practices that promote dignity, access, and opportunity for individuals with disabilities.
At the Hall of Fame ceremony, David delivered an acceptance speech that reflected the heart of his work and the experiences that shaped his path as an advocate. His remarks highlighted the power of persistence, the importance of being heard, and the responsibility we all share to remove barriers that prevent people from fully participating in their communities. A video of David’s speech is available on Chinook’s YouTube channel and offers a powerful glimpse into the values that guide his advocacy.

David’s impact is felt every day at Chinook and throughout the region. His leadership has helped open doors for countless individuals and has strengthened relationships between self‑advocates, service providers, educators, and policymakers. Being honored by Skagit Valley College is a fitting tribute to someone who has spent his life ensuring that others are seen, valued, and included.
Please join us in congratulating David on this well‑deserved recognition and in celebrating the many ways his advocacy continues to shape a more inclusive community!
